Pre fabrication Quality Control Procedure


Manufacturing high-quality storage tanks requires high-quality materials, and raw materials are selected from large steel companies. The initial inspection includes testing conditions such as surface quality, geometric parameters, chemical composition, and mechanical properties.


The quality of the metal plate surface; Geometric parameters of the unit (shape, size, and limit deviation); Chemical composition of metal rollers; Tensile test; Bending test; Impact bending test. During the storage and transfer of materials in the production site, it is necessary to ensure their safety, especially to prevent them from being damp and mechanically damaged. We store materials and other components in dry warehouse facilities. The metal coils sent for storage are classified and labeled after preliminary inspection. They are stored in the warehouse and allocated by type and profile. At the same time, avoid them from coming into contact with the ground. Welding materials should be stored separately by variety and batch. Before production, welding rods and fluxes should be dried, and welding wires should be cleaned of rust, oil stains, and other contaminants.

Type of tank construction


Each board method


The first method of tank construction is to assemble the top, shell, and bottom block by block. Inverted or assembled, the shell plate and bottom plate with a maximum size of 2500 × 10000 millimeters are prepared in the factory and rolled up according to the radius specified in the design project. Then package the board with a frame to prepare for transportation. The assembly (welding) of the shell and bottom is carried out on the construction site. The main factors affecting the quality of the metal structure of the tank produced by this method are strict specification of its shape (design scheme) and the development of a series of process measures to prevent deformation of the metal frame during transportation.


The basic stages of vertical tank shell construction are as follows: 1 The first stage of the preparation program includes preparing the shell and base plate. This stage ensures that the planned dimensions and geometric parameters are met. Pre welding edge treatment was also performed. During the preparation process, the extreme shape deviation of the board is controlled. The company's technical regulations limit the maximum width deviation to within ± 0.5 millimeters. 2. Arc plate forming


Then enter the plate rolling machine for rolling and arc rolling to meet the radius planned for the engineering design project. Rolling makes the tank body appear cylindrical during installation. The radius is checked through the model. The net gap between the model within the arc (2m) and the curved plate surface should not exceed 3mm. Another rolling quality parameter is the waviness of the leading edge. The waviness along the entire length of the board shall not exceed 4 millimeters. The waviness parameter for every 1 meter of board length should be within a range of 2 millimeters. 3. Packaging and transporting prefabricated tank panels into frames for transportation. Due to the identical geometric parameters between the pressed part and the rolled plate, the radius of the rolled plate can be kept constant; Firmly fix the plate frame to avoid edge damage; Ensure safety during transportation and prevent deformation. The bottom components are packaged and transported in containers constructed according to their type and size. Manufacturing of tank top metal frame: The metal parts on the top of the storage tank are mainly wrapped angle steel, and the production technology varies depending on its type, determined by the design project. This method is one of the two methods for manufacturing metal structures for storage tanks in industry, mainly used in the CIS countries. Transport the tank walls and bottom in the form of steel coils to the construction site for welding. The advantage of this method is that the welding process within the building area is reduced by an average of about 80%, and due to the use of double-sided automatic welding, the quality of the welded joints is higher, resulting in a 3-4 times reduction in tank installation time. The strip panel is made of modular steel plates with dimensions of 1500 × 6000 millimeters. The sheet is automatically welded on a dedicated rolling machine. The plate rolling machine consists of welding and assembly stations (upper and lower layers) and a coiling device. There are two basic schemes for operating a coiler (up coiling and down coiling).


The length of the coil can reach 18 meters, and the weight can be adjusted according to the lifting capacity.


The stage of using the coiling method to manufacture strip boards: 1. Design the technical structure. 2. Arrange the sheet metal frame or maintenance ladder as a coiling arrangement according to the design drawings; 3. Welding and winding; 4. Prepare to transport prefabricated steel coils. Preparation of process framework: Before welding the strip steel plate, a special framework needs to be prepared to wind the plate onto it. The diameter of the frame should not be less than 2.6 meters, and its length should be equal to the height of the tank body. Vertical shaft maintenance stairs are usually used as a technical framework for coiling shells. This usually applies to storage tanks with a loading capacity of no more than 2000 cubic meters. The maximum shall not exceed 5000 cubic meters.


Arrange strip panels: The discharge of tank wall panels, bottom panels, and top panels is carried out on the upper welding assembly platform of the plate rolling machine. During the discharging process, the prepared boards are placed on site according to the drawings and fixed with installation tools. The rollable wall panel must have a certain amount of process allowance in length for assembly and installation of joints. Welding and winding of strip wall panels: Welding is a fundamental stage in tank manufacturing, as far as the winding method is concerned. We use automatic double-sided welding for both front and horizontal seams. Firstly, weld the original seam on the top of the winding machine and the assembly layer, then re roll the wall panel through the edge drum, and complete the second seam on the lower platform. The winding sequence of different tank frame wall panels is opposite to the unfolding sequence during installation.


A series of measures need to be taken to ensure the quality of welded joints. The welding procedure was initially developed and tested by our welding laboratory for welding processes. They are used as the basis for welding operation conditions, which determine the requirements for welding joints and the sequence of process operations related to the type and thickness of the metal coil, the type of weld, the preparation of the steel plate groove, and other parameters. The execution of welding operation conditions is controlled by the General Welding Operator Service and Quality Control Department. Through thorough research and strict adherence to welding operating conditions, we are able to provide high-quality welding. Defects or violations of welding techniques often result in a series of serious problems, such as poor connection between the weld seam and the main metal. Defects in welded joints include cracks, ripples, air pockets, burn through, and porosity. Therefore, the overall strength of the welded joint does not meet the standard and may cause welding deformation, resulting in protrusions, indentations, and tank shaped defects.

Our multi-level quality control system for welding joints includes: 100% visual and measurement welding joint control; Physical control method, kerosene leakage inspection and radiographic testing (conducted after visual inspection and acceptance. Radiographic testing is required for wall panel welding joints and butt welds); Ultrasonic defect detection, used to reveal internal and surface defects in welded joints and welding affected areas; Magnetic particle method; The results of tank manufacturing quality control tank manufacturing quality control tank manufacturing quality control tank manufacturing quality control quality testing are included in the relevant documents of the fuel tank. Control the quality of welded joints through experimental samples. It is not a mandatory requirement, we will apply this method to 100% of the pre weld joints of the coil material. The main idea of this method is to fix two metal plates (test samples) at the edges of the welded plate. The material and edge treatment type of the sample are the same as those of the welded plate. The welding operator therefore performs two welding joints - including the joint of the test sample. The joints of the test samples need to be evaluated by experts and checked for fracture, bending, and impact resistance. The implementation of this method results in the disappearance of welding joint defects in the rolled plate. Therefore, we have minimized welding deformation issues and avoided protrusions and indentations.
